Dr. Vijay Habbu

Dr. Habbu headed the Polymer Processing Section at the National Chemical Laboratory (Pune). He subsequently spent 31 years at Reliance Industries, leading Research & Technology for the Polyester Division and the Sustainability Team for PET and other polymers.
He is a member of:
* The Expert Group on Plastics, Government of Maharashtra
* The Ecolabel Committees on Plastics and Plastic Packaging of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
* The Plastics (PCD-12) and Plastic Packaging (PCD-21) Committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
* The committee responsible for drafting the Packaging Chapter of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission
* The panel of experts at the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)
Dr. Habbu is associated with several plastics industry associations, particularly PACE and AIPMA, where he supports regulatory, legal, and plastic waste management initiatives. He has also been an active participant in the United Nations negotiations for a Global Plastics Treaty.
He serves as an Adjunct Professor at ICT, where he teaches Sustainability of Polymeric Materials. He is also a member of the Research Advisory Council of the Green Energy and Sustainability Hub (GESH) at IIT Bombay and serves on the Managing Committee of the Special Instrumental Facility at IIT Bombay.
Dr. Habbu runs his own consultancy and serves as an Independent Director at AnantTattva Pvt. Ltd. He was recently appointed Chair of the Chemicals & Allied Sector of the ASSOCHAM Maharashtra Council.
